The Tallow Grove (north area) and Beech Ridge (south area) sites are good examples of Late Caddo Hamlets.  The geophysics from both of these sites at first glance is much less striking than the data from larger sites like the George C. Davis and Hill Farm sites.  The data is also not as easily interpreted.

Small single family hamlets, such as both the Tallow Grove and Beech Ridge sites, make up the vast majority of Caddo sites - and it can be assumed that geophysical results such as these will be far more common than the results from larger more intensely settled sites.  The results presented below were reached by using geophysical maps to guide excavations - and in turn using the archaeology to help interpret the geophysical maps.  We find this type of collaboration is absolutely necessary to maximize the utility of geophysical data.

Findings of this survey are will be published in a technical report by Archaeological & Environmental Consultants, LLC for Nacogdoches County.  Data from this project is also being used for various journal articles.  Links to journal articles and bibliographic information will be posted here upon publication.
